Hi Marius,
Gel is a thick resin about the same as syrup,it is used as the surface you see on the finished product,it remains tacky on the air side and full dryes on the surface that is in contact with the mould or patten,this is to help it bond to the matt it also stops the patten of the matt showing through the surface,it can be bought in color but I buy it clear and color it myself,I colored it red in this case as the boat will be colored black this helps to make sure the mould has been covered with the black gel properly as the red is clearly visable through the black if you have missed a bit.

Re: CSS HUNLEY
HI,@nigele
THANK YOU.Now is clear.Is a lot of work before You get the final product!.
But from what I can see until now is great and specially so accurate.
How thick it wheel be the hull?;how many layers of fiberglass You add?;
I've seen in the pictures You used fist a dense fiberglass cloth and then a different fiberglass!.
I have a question:
-how You wheel join the 2 half in length,I mean how is going to be align?.
Or just a upper hull is made in 2 pieces and the lower hull is in one piece in length?.
MARIUS.
