    That's.....oh, what the devil was his name? Wasn't he an ex-WW2 German submariner?

    Yes you are right about him being on U-Boot's in WW2, his name starts with "K" surname starts with a "V" ;)

    Got him, Fred...Karl Varnig, lived in a huge flat in Bayswater, London. His wife was one of the most formidable women I've ever met, even Bernie quaked before her. I still have the Torpedo Mate's cap he gave me.

    If I remember correctly he served in the late war boats, I believe he was on a Type XX1 at one time.

    That is right Dick, he moved to Brighton in his later life,I do think that this photo was taken just before he passed away.

    He was on U 502

    He was a real nice guy, a proper gentleman. I can't remember how Bernie came to know him, but I do remember being introduced to him at a show somewhere, might have been the MEE...the little grey cells are struggling, Fred.
