Hi I wish to make up my own website for my boat club,as it has not got one.
Preferably, one without adverts in it.
Any ideas on the cheapest way to achieve this, as my club would not agree to
    paying for one,
    Cheers John.W.

That is not so easy to answer mate. There are so many variables.
As far as free, well, you will need to hunt for someone that may want to host your site (like here Free Hosting - not an endorsement - just found it by searching) . Most likely free means a lot of advertising - not sure. If you want to host a server yourself, that is a cost in itself.
Software wise there are things like Joomla or even straight HTML. I do not know how much experience you have in programming, but if you put the time in you can do it. You will need to register your name for your website (that is a cost - like Godaddy.com)

    Does this help?
