New out from Revell...
Now this does look very nice...a new kit from Revell, a Type 1Xc U boat (U-505) and it's 1/72nd scale too, a nice size. It looks as though those pesky flood slots are pre cut as well...if that turns out to be the case, then I could be very tempted.

Re: New out from Revell...
Looks great but I'm afraid the price will be very high, somewhere between 500 - 600 GBP , close to 600 EURO!!!.

Re: New out from Revell...
I think you're right, it was Dortmund show. £100 is a good price though...now wait for Mr Caswell and Mr Merriman to bring out a fittings kit!

Re: New out from Revell...
We were sand-bagged on this one. This is the first I've seen of the thing, though Mike had secured a promise of a test shot early on so I could work up the SD and fittings kit.Richard(Admin) wrote:I think you're right, it was Dortmund show. £100 is a good price though...now wait for Mr Caswell and Mr Merriman to bring out a fittings kit!
Now we have to play catch-up. Just as soon as I get a sample I'll start in on the masters for the fittings kit. I assume a development of the current GATO SD will work for this ocean-going beast.
It will be months before we have anything commercially available. Damn!

Re: New out from Revell...
On a better note, David has just told me that he is working on a full fittings kit for the Type 1X...
Pictures tomorrow, I can't upload them on my tablet.

Here they are, the pictures that David sent me of the fittings kit under construction:
Thanks for those, David...do I detect that you opened up the flood slots?

Re: New out from Revell...
Yeah, the limber holes up by the deck are easy: you just grind back from the inside till you open up the limber holes, the flood slots on the bottom of the hull are more problematic as those require both grinding from the inside, punch-out with small drills, and careful work with custom formed files and sanding tools. A real bitch, but the work is worth it as all those openings are a significant parts of the subjects charm.

Re: New out from Revell...
That looks like really tidy work to me, David...I was contemplating another U-Flak boat (U-441) late next year, if I do, I'll buy one from you and pay you to open up the slots in it. Did you do the ones in the deck as well? They drove me to drink in my previous Flak boat, they just seemed to go on and on and on...an on...and on...

Re: New out from Revell...
Sorry, Richard, I don't take commissions any more -- just too busy with development and production work for Caswell. You got plenty of talent over there, anyway. I nominate, Andy.

Re: New out from Revell...
Fear not David, I was jesting with you...I have more than enough boats on the go at present to fill my remaining years without contemplating any more! I get into enough trouble with my doctor as it is, if he saw another boat in my bedroom he'd probably shoot me!
At least the fibreglass ones are hidden from view...
