    electronic switcher? Empty electronic switcher?

    Post  Tom(ADMIN) Tue Jun 28, 2011 9:35 pm

John, is is possible to have an electronic 'widget' that will plug into my Robbe F-14 rx, that I can use to switch on my searchlamp and flashing beacons on my Neptune via the tx?

At the moment I just plug the battery pack in to the light circuit to switch the lights on, but it would be better to be able to switch them on via the tx.

The 'widget' needs to be capable of switching on the searchlight which contains 8 x 5mm diameter leds and the flashings beacons which are 10mm HiViz Ultra Brite leds run from an Action Electronics Pico flasher unit, the whole lot is powered by a five AAA sized cell pack.

    HI Richard
You could do this useing a cmos chip to give you on off functions, chip would be linked to fets to drive leds or you could use a pic to do the same job again could use it to drive fets for leds which would be smaller as i would think you havent got much space, inside your neptune to play about with you could do a circuit board the size of a two pence piece to give you some idear of the size the unit would be but it would have to be done in surface mounted componants. Richard i have got just the circuit you could use for this has transmitter got toggle switch center off or are you going to use joy stick on stansmitter

John...talk English! I'm totally confused and I've only read the first two words!

Can you make whatever is needed for me and let me know how much it will be, please?

It'll need a standard Futaba plug, and an 8" long lead from the unit back to the rx. I'll be using an standard on/off/on switch on the tx.

    Thanks mate,

    Richard

electronic switcher? Empty rc switching unit

Post  johnrobinson Thu Jun 30, 2011 10:10 pm

    HI ANDYN

Don't take this the wrong way mate, but why would you want to use a servo to switch a micro switch on and off to switch on some L.E.DS, as what you are trying to do with the servo and micro switch will end up 12 times bigger than useing a pcb?

I thought we had left the cave man times, we are now in the age of the micro chip and pics..I thought you where a lot older than 18, as we left these in the 1920's.

It is very hard for me to look back at things like that when I'm an RF engineer and electronics engineer.

    I can't see how it's over-complicating things Andy?

With the tiny little pcb board, all I do is stick it to the equipment tray with double sided tape, plug it into the rx, plug the flying lead into the lights, and that's it...job done.

It's probably taken me longer to type this than it will to fit the board...

Too late now that John has already built one but you can buy (for only a fiver incl £1 to RNLI) one of the evaluation PIC chips. The switcher one would drive several LEDS directly from the chip and, of course, it is tiny.

    Ahh well next time!

(Actually I quite like Andy N's servo mod. They are so cheap and small now that they are crying out to be modified - where space permits.)

    HI Nigel
yes i think it is time that Richard had got guidance sytem fitted, i will have to design him a auto pilot and gps link so you always no where he is, when you won't him and we could also fit it with way points just like one of the planes that i did, sorry Richard only joking but i will be suprized if you don't get rid of this
