    Hi all,

I've just received this from Brian Alps...very sad news indeed.

    Hello Brian,

I have just received the Autumn 2012 Edition of In Depth addressed to my father.

It is with great sadness that I must advise you that he passed away on the 30th July this year. He read the magazine regularly from cover to cover and remained interested in model submarines until the end of his life.

I have one or two editions when you featured either him or his models and if you have any back copies mentioning John Darnell I would be very pleased to receive these as a record to his dedication in this field.

    Kind regards,
    Terese Darnell.

And here's a really old photograph of a very young John Darnell with a U-47 model.

Sad news....... My condolences to the family (late unfortunately). Our hobby was and forever will be changed because of the contribution John Darnell made.

Indeed Tom, he was the Godfather of submarine modelling in the UK.
