    Hi All,

Please see below a message that I received from our newest member bigjohn1985 who is the Nephew of Bernie Wood's.

Thank you John for allowing me to reproduce your message on the forum and welcome to the AMS.

    Kevin

Hi Im john and ive always been interested in model RC submarines and boats since I was very young in the early 90's but I guess that its hard not to be when Bernie wood was your uncle I saw so many wonderful models he built and I always thought one day im going to build one of my own. well that day has come and im finally ready to take the plunge and im just starting to gather all the info I can before starting the build I would have asked Bernie but unfortunately he is no longer with us so im going to have to take a dive in the deep end. I would love to join the AMS and be a part of Bernie's world lol. if you new him personally I still see Anita when ever we pop down Hythe in Kent and she is great and of really good health and she spends a lot of her time at Steven and Jackie's. I used to go down to Orpington boating pond with Bernie of a Sunday with the dolphin boat club I did try looking them up but cant seem to find anything on them so don't know if there still going. be nice to speak to people that new him well and that is happy to help as I new Bernie would have been. I look forward to speaking soon kindest regards John

    Thanks David.
Yes I think it does span over generations
Even my children look at pictures and videos of him and there blown away by the detail of his subs.
He was a very clever man shame he still not around but everybody has there time unfortunately and I am going to enjoy the hobby just wish I had started sooner but better late then never I suppose.
He's defiantly my inspiration and I guess he gave load of people that same inspiration to build fantastic models.
I dont think even he realised he would leave such a large legacy ect it's been over 10 years since he passed away and still people talk about him as if he's still here, still using methods he developed ect it make you proud to have known him.

    Hi John.

    Welcome to the madhouse,

Would you please give Anita my love and apologies for not keeping in touch the next time you see her, may be you could P/M me her address and phone number some time.

As for Bernie I spent many an hour with him at home and on the road going to and from shows, I do remember at one of the Dolphin events he asked if everyone could put an eye patch on when they did the steering course as he had little sight in his left eye.

I also have his old coaster that he named after Anita and I must have some photos of his boats some were.

You must talk to Dick Huggett and Alf Blake at some time, Dick and Alf know Bernie a lot longer than me.

    All the best

    Fred Ellis
