Re: A sad day for HMS Asute..
I dont think its anything wrong with our submarines David just the odd crew member that gets to go a bit dulaly every now and again papers say he should have had help after being at sea for a period of time, by all means offer the guy help but for him to take a weapon and indiscriminatly let off a couple of rounds is bang out of order after all he knew what he was letting himself in for when he undertook the training. now when I was a lad you never heard of this sort of thing going on because it was rare thankfully it is still quite rare now but with the power of T.V. and the news papers we get to find out a lot more a lot quicker
my thoughts are with the familys effected.
Regards Mark.

Re: A sad day for HMS Asute..
I see what you mean - something wrong with our recruitment, perhaps. You would think in the present state of the economy you could choose the cream of the crop! (Mind you by those means you may recruit a higher proportion of nutters!)
I understand that Astute has had a number of problems as well as well as the grounding and the subsequent loss of the Commander. I suppose it all adds up.
The local Councillor deserves a medal, I think. Otherwise 24 rounds to go and imagine if that had been near bigger weapons!

Re: A sad day for HMS Asute..
So 25 years it is. Seems about right but it will not bring the Officer back (and father of 4 children.)(Apparently the death toll would have been much worse if he hadn't been such a rotten shot!)
Will he serve his time in a civilian or military prison?
