Anyone "computer techies" out there know how we can do an index for magazine archive?

All the mags have been scanned as images in pdf and doc format.

Is there any way we can make the text searchable/ indexable etc?

Will we have to ocr it?

Do I know what I'm talking about??!

    Help!

The PDF files will need to be converted to OCR. Individuals can search with in their own computer, but to search from the web, the site will need a third party program to index and make the files retrievable for viewing.

That sounds like the way to go, Salmon.

I haven't used OCR software for a long time (and it it was then fairly cranky and I imagine it has got a lot better.)

Thanks for the suggestion Salmon and any suggestions for suitable software? (It is not lurking within Microsoft Office perhaps??)
