Is there a remote controlled mini submarine that will work in a 58 gallon saltwater tank? One that can stay submerged by filling a ballast?

Need more info, how deep,is the water in the tank salty, when you say remote(this can mean on a cable from the surface)or do you mean radio controlled, how big do you want the boat.

Graupner make a little mini sub, terrific little things, but I'm not sure about running it in salt water though.

The saltwater tank is 36.5 x W 18.5 x H 21; I would like a remote controlled mini sub with no wires. Also I want one with a ballast so I do not have to constantly point a propeller down to stay submerged.

    Thanks

please remember that radio signals wont travel through salt water.

Will it work in a saltwater aquarium at close range. If I am within 3 feet of the sub standing by the aquarium? Will the radio signal travel through the aquarium glass and saltwater to the sub?

It's very doubtful if you will get a signal to the sub like that...is there a reason why you can't use it in a freshwater tank?

    Hi
Glass is no problem but 3feet of salt water I would doubt the signal would reach the boat,it might be possible to extend the arial cable and float it on the surface of the water, but this means that the boat will have a cable running to it from the surface.

I have a 58 gallon saltwater aquarium. So if the sub is in the aquarium and I am standing in front or a few feet back from the aquarium, will the signal pass through the glass and reach the sub? The horizontal distance from the sub to the front glass of the aquarium is less that a foot. will this work? ie. me<--2 feet--> glass aquarium wall <- 1 to 12 inches of saltwater ->submarine

    Hi,
The glass will be fine, but the salf water will not allow the signal to reach the boat.

You will have trouble getting a signal to the mini sub.

If you have any radio control equipment try putting the receiver behind the tank (in air) and see if you get any control.

It may just work with 27Mhz or 40Mhz but 2.4Ghz no chance, I would say.

(The basic problem is the conductivity of sea water. It is rather like putting the receiver in a metal (Faraday) screen.)
