I see that it is still down.
What happens in this sort of problem, Richard?
Any chance that we could be similarly affected?

Not if I can help it, David...Mayhem runs a totally different set up to ours, it's web based, and far more complex in it's build up. Ours is technically simple to build and to operate on a day to day basis, whereas Mayhem has a team of IT bods running it...and they have to be paid for doing it.

I try to keep everything updated, especially the security side of things...there's always a chance that we will be attacked big time, but the anti virus is pretty good and so far it has caught every little attack we've had.

Which reminds me, maybe I should put in for a pay rise...

Yes, they should double what you get paid now!

"Mayhem has a team of IT bods running it...and they have to be paid for doing it."

    You're having a laugh aren’t ya!!

Mayhem is a ‘Jack Jones’ operation, me and the ghost of Christmas past and that’s it. No backroom team, no IT bods, no one but me in a cold, dark, dusty shed…. with only big spiders to keep me company in the wee hours of the morning…..
Funding, actually I personally fund most of the running cost of Mayhem and from donations that some Mayhemers send me.

Backups. I’m paranoid about loosing stuff on the forum and have a regimented backup routine that goes back to day one of the forum but as we say in IT, “You’re only as good as your last backup!”

Mayhem is a SMF system run on SQL. SQL is an easy system to backup and I followed the backup procedure to the letter. Easy to backup but quite tricky to verify, actually from my experience, impossible! The only real way to verify a SQL Db is to restore it to an identical forum and see if it works!.... I know that NOW but it’s not anywhere in the SMF documentation…. So when Mayhem fell over during a software upgrade, I then tried to roll it back, only then to find the backups were no good! Much swearing latter and a few $$ in the right hands and I managed to establish a running repair and we’re were and running again…. with a different backup protocol in place!

Anyway….. anyone bringing their subs to Mayhem at Wicksteed – June 2, 3?

Hello young Martin, and welcome to the cheap and cheerful AMS forum....we work on a shoestring over here, and then only when I can spare the lace and put my slippers on!

Our expenses are confined to the forum's and the website domain names, renewed every two years. It's very reasonable to renew the two of them, our treasurer barely blinks when renewal time comes round! Oh, and just the expense of buying the image hosting space, which is virtually nothing.

I keep backups of everything on here that moves, and even if it doesn't move I still back it up...just in case.

I'll leave your question open to the lads, but you'll need to lay on a paramedic team, two or three ambulances, a fully equipped A&E room and an air ambulance....to say that the AMS membership is old and decrepid would be an understatement...
