The Model Boat Convention (Haydock Park/Warrington) 27/28 th August

Post  david f on Fri Jul 29, 2011 1:56 pm

Thought I would open this up as a new thread to cope with the new venue.
The AMS will have a stand and Alistair, Dave J, Paul B and Ian - I will post exhibitors tickets to you soon. Any other AMS members who would like to "plonk something" on the stand - please let me know, but I am unlikely to be able to get you an exhibitors pass at this late stage.

We are not sure about the free sailing possibilities at this new venue. There will certainly be a pool but small - so perhaps only little subs.

There are rumours that the large pond across the race track may be used in this and future events - but still only rumours!

    See you there!

    (Flyer follows:)

Jean Barlow from the Convention has been in contact with me about the pool which is not going to be too small at about 20 feet long. I've asked if it can be filled as much as possible to get some depth. It will make an excellent test tank too!

Excellent photos david, looks like a good turnout there, some nice boats as well.

I begin to think that I live in the wrong part of the country...

Subs on other stands. Terry T's growing fleet of very nice subs.

Chris's subs and his latest model of the US hovercraft (It won first prize!) (Sorry about my camera shake photo - I would be grateful if anyone could post a better one.)

The type XXI was in the For sale (Chandlery) section for £350 and did not sell.

David J and his prizewinner (and prize!)

    David

PS I don't think you live in the wrong end of the country, Richard. There are more shows etc in the South. (Maybe too many - dilutes the effort??)

We(Nigel and myself)have spoken about this at great length, David...and we always arrive at the same answer. There is no answer...

I guess we all have problems of some sort which prevent us attending these shows...be it financial restrictions, heath issues, transport issues, they all add up to increase the problem of people not being able to attend shows.

A few years ago you were fighting for space on our stand at a show to put your boat down...now we're lucky to have a stand to put a put a boat on.

Fingers crossed that next year things will improve...I'd like to think that they will.

No, I think that you are being unduly pessimistic,Richard.
Thinking about this year, key shows/events, such as Alfold were well supported. I've been to some very good events so far this year.
All the indications are that Norwich this month will have a reasonable turnout.
We are thinly spread so fewer but better seems to be the answer and there are perhaps too many events in the South.

Probably true David...I've been a "my glass is half empty" type of person!

Admittedly I was basing my comments on one show only...on a lighter note, Brighton is looking good already for next year!
