I have the cap and DVD already, that badge will go nicely with the one I got from the National Maritime Museum in Sydney which also also features an O class at sea.

    Hi All,

I managed to find this explanation on the Paypal site which I think answers your questions.
So gifting is not really possible for us, Richard.
We have overcharged you, Ramesh, by about 40p.

The Paypal fee system is a tad complicated in my opinion.

My view as Treasurer remains that we should encourage cheque payments but offer Paypal if people want to use it.
So Ramesh, I will post your order today but let me know if you would to pay by cheque and I will cancel the Paypal payment.

    PAYPAL info follows:

Is there a fee to receive money?
    Question :
    Answer :
Receiving a personal payment (e.g. a gift from family) is free if the sender uses their PayPal balance or their bank as a funding source. If they use a credit or debit card there will be a small fee. The sender can decide to pay this or pass it on to you.

If you are receiving a business payment (e.g. when selling items on eBay) then you will be charged a fee. The basic rate for receiving payments is 3.4% + 20p.

    Many thanks Ramesh.

(What I will do shortly is work out Paypal charges for particular categories and edit the for sale section. What is puzzing is that Paypal charges for the AMS subscription does come out at about 70p which does not seem to agree with the formula??)

Just to say thank you to all our members who have bought all the archive disks, PIC chips etc etc.

For each purchase you donated £1 and I've just sent a cheque for £25 to our chosen charity the RNLI.

Right once the tea break is over I will raise the necessary paperwork.

Actually never mind all that - it will be £2 postage free and best to add 60p Paypal fees unless you can avoid them.

Just to say that another programmed PIC has been added to the collection. This is a low voltage alarm. This gives an alarm tone from a piezo disk together with 2 reversing outputs for, say, LEDs or a +5v logic signal to a pump or piston tank (to prevent a dive.) The alarm is set to trigger at 2.3 volts which is just over 9v divided by 4. So this could be a 3 cell lipo fed through a divide by 4 voltage divider, as an example.

If any other software enthusiast would like to participate in this scheme you would do us all a favour. The chips require very little to connect them up and come with basic instructions. The updated magazine article follows:

    CHIPS for evaluation.
The extra items are PIC Microprocessors which contain software that I have been developing. I have provided the software for free, the chip costs less than £1 and even with a £1 donation to the RNLI the cost to AMS members is only £5 with about £3 profit for the AMS.

Your chance to try and comment on some submarines dedicated electronics at little cost. To protect commercial suppliers these chips are only available to AMS members and no more than 2 chips of each type per member per year can be supplied. Please note that these are under development so read the current status of development and their use is at your own risk!

    (1) The Pinger chip. This is the heart of a lost submarine location system. The chip needs you to add 2 lithium cells, 1 or 2 piezo sounders costing £2, a switch and a waterproof container to provide an underwater sound pulse which can be detected with a hydrophone at ranges of tens of metres. (Status: Fully developed and tested.)

    (2) The piston tank controller chip. This will provide a fully proportional piston tank control. A receiver output signal and the output from a Hall switch (Cost about £2) counts revolutions from a magnet attached to the drive thread or a gear wheel in the drive. The chip provides output suitable for the H Bridge described in previous issues of the magazine. This can switch many amps to give fully proportional control in uses from piston tanks, sliding weights, or just homemade servos with a lot of "grunt." A loss of signal failsafe is built in. (Status: Model sub tested but still under development. Your comments please!)

    (3) The pump in and out controller. This gives a pump in and pump out signal from a receiver output. The chip provides output suitable for the standard H Bridge described in previous issues of the magazine. A loss of signal failsafe is built in and a low voltage alarm input to prevent pump in.((Status: Fully developed and tested.)
