Extra access hatch for Engel Type IX Empty Extra access hatch for Engel Type IX

Post  Peter Webster Fri Nov 14, 2014 8:32 am

I have realized that I need to fit an extra access hatch on my Engel type IX. The kit supplied unit is aluminium plate but I would much prefer to use polycarbonate and need advice as to what thickness would be advisable. the boat will be diving to about 1.8m(6ft) so I am thinking 6.0mm or 5mm thick polycarbonate.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Peter,

Polycarbonate flexes more than say Perspex or Aluminium but that looks thick enough.

David J in our club (Barrow) uses thinner Perspex with an outer aluminium flange - the best of both worlds?! He is very keen on flat hatches - (I am less so.)

I wonder if you can't do a cut out in your aluminium plate?
