The 22nd Century is calling me..my first serious attempt at going over to LiPo technology.

David F, where do I wire in the 5 amp circuit breaker? It came with the FR40 LiPo friendly esc...is it some form of fuse?

It will be a form of fuse that resets after a few seconds. It should go in the positive line from the Lipo.

HOWEVER you have just reopened the great fuse debate!

I would in addition put a 20A car type fuse (i.e it will blow permanently) Immediately after the positive lead from the Lipo. This is to provide protection against shorting the Lipo.

    Let the debate commence!

I hope you know what you've started here, David..."to fuse or not to fuse, that is the question"

I did get a note from Steve Juden about where and what to do with the circuit breaker, your analysis agrees with his, so that's where I'll install it. I also will fit another inline fuse, considering the power output of these LiPos...for 'escaping smoke', read 'Big Bang!'

I have seen both the negative and positive battery leads fused.
This guarantees that no such short circuit shall happen.

Here's the first attempt at my LiPo powered rado box set up for my little submersible. I had to order an extension lead for the charging socket as it wasn't long enough to allow me to reach it with the modified lid fitted. The LiPo monoitor will sit on a little shelf when the lead arrives, above the battery pack.

Tomorrow, hands permitting, I'll get the motor wired up, tidy up the wires, and fit the waterproof exits for the servo rods.

Another bad hand day, so I didn't attempt any soldering, but I did manage to cut the new lip for the box, and get the holes drilled for the lid.

Thanks, Giovanni...I had my 'emergency' appointment at the local hospital come through to see if they can sort me out, it's in March...2015! Pretty hopeless....
