I have been trying this out where the control rod exits the brass tube I fitted heat shrink tube to it the rod slips through with no problem a little c a on the brass tube to secure and try to blow through it no chance. I might be mad but I might try it on the shafts

Alf Blake used the plastic snake control rods, and he would cut the outer cove, then he placed two small "O" rings out of a gas lighter onto the inner rod, he then left a gap of 5mm, between the "O" rings, covered the outer and the gap area with heat shrink. there by fixing the "O" with the heat shrink. the inner rod can still move and the water is stopped by the "O" rinds.
